Rapid Application Development
FileMaker is a truly remarkable rapid application development tool. Where other database development may take weeks, FileMaker can implement solutions in days. There is no other database software on the market today that can provide the feature sophistication, gorgeous GUI and rapid development capability. That’s why we choose to use FileMaker.
In this case, “rapid” means “compared to tools used with Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and Salesforce.com.”
These software tools often require a multitude of sometimes-costly add-on tools, particularly from third party suppliers. As a result of the implementation complexity, companies often demand that development be rigidly staged in a waterfall-like matter, with appropriate sign-offs at each level.
The waterfall method (below left) requires rigid and controlled steps, slower development and higher expense. Once released, future iterations are sometimes prohibitively time-consuming and expensive.

The FM model is faster and less expensive and therefore lends itself to a spiral development method (above right) , allowing multiple iterations of a design in the time required for more traditional software to complete a single iteration.
Further, since FM relieves the developer of extensive coding knowledge, they can focus on the business process and the associated dataset. They are not saddled with the time-consuming details of hand coding applications and can focus instead on building applications that meet the needs of the business, visually designing forms, menus, reports and tables using point-and-click and drag-and-drop techniques.
